- Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the oats absorb the liquid and the apple softens, about 8-10 minutes.
- Stir in the cinnamon, ginger, and maple syrup, allowing the flavors to meld as the mixture thickens further, about 2-3 minutes.
- Check the consistency; if you prefer it creamier, splash in a little hot water or milk and stir until smooth.
- Remove the saucepan from heat once the oats are tender, the mixture is thickened, and the apple is just starting to disintegrate slightly.
- Spoon the warm oatmeal into bowls and serve immediately, topping with extra cinnamon or a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.
Notes
